Finally, after two years of separation due to the pandemic, May Day Labor Day returns to the streets and squares also in our lands, with an integrated program of events organized by the secretariats of Cgil, Cisl and Uil counties.
“This is an essential opportunity to put the deeply intertwined themes of peace and labor – the keywords for Labor Day 2022 – at the heart of political, union and social initiative, the only prerequisite for potential growth.
Wars have always produced poverty, misery, and injustice: history knows—or should know, beginning with the last terrible global conflict and the liberation battles we have just celebrated—that only the heroic role of men and women workers can help to achieve and secure peace and development.
It is necessary to undermine the logic of war as a tool for regulating relations between states and peoples. Here, therefore, on May 1st, the request of all those working for peace, to invest money in work and health rather than buy arms, represents according to the Confederate trade unions the basic obligation to stop the drift of violence and prevarication. In which the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is the latest and closest example to us, it must be stopped.”
